Priscilla House
1155 East Broadway
We would like to "thank" everyone that donated to the women at the Priscilla House on East Broadway. On September 24, 2019 some of us women with the OMG ("Oh My Goodness" sharing, caring, and showing love) team, took donated personal items to the women at the Priscilla House.
I, Ima Yahruth appreciate the opportunity and response of the wonderful women of this community (on nextdoor.com) pulling together to give of their time, energy and resources. A special thanks to Mrs. Christine White for her lovely donations for the women. A special thank you to Mrs. Robin Miller who gave some awesome donations for the women. A special thanks to Mrs. Amanda Wisehart for her hard work and great donations, participation and her public speaking to the women. Another special thank you goes out to Mrs. Cheryl Smith for her time, hard work, participation, wonderful donations and her public speaking to the women. Another special thank you goes to Ms. LeClara Whitlock for her hard work, participation, thoughtful donations and her public speaking to the women. I loved the opportunity to also had the pleasure to donate and to publicly speak to the women.
We had a story to tell the women about our experiences we have had in the past and/or about someone close to us that might have had or has an addiction. The women were very awesome and were receptive to us. They provided their undivided attention and had the opportunity to ask questions at the end. We gave out the donated items and we also took the opportunity to provide three lovely gifts to three winners whom names were pulled out of a basket. Congratulations to Natasha, Karen and LaFawn. They told us to tell all those who were involved in this mission for them, "thank you" from the bottom of their hearts! The other wonderful women's name are, Jordan, Holly, Abby, Nikki, Leigha, Lee Ann, Kim and Tonya. We were very well received and have been invited back anytime.
The overseers of the women like Mrs. Lori Strause, Executive Director of Priscilla House, Mrs. Julianne Gibson, Intake and Outreach Coordinator were all please and they received us with open arms also. These women along with other staff members have a beautiful and well-kept facility/home for the women and it is not only runningh smoothly but with a blessed ministry for them included.
The OMG team would like to let everyone know that the visit to the Priscilla House was very successful and look forwarded in going back to check on the women again in the future.
We would like to mention that some of the donated items were bars of soap, hair shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs and brushes, toilet paper, Kleenex tissue and feminine pads. When we meet with other unfortunate people across our state, we can always use these items.
Our next mission, the OMG team is going to be with the Lost Sheep Ministries. We will give further information soon. I talked to Mr. Norm Mirrick and he is an overseer of the Lost Sheep Ministries. He mentions that they could certainly use blankets and told me that a lot of people don't realize that homeless people use blankets all year around, particularly because of rain, dust and bugs and the old winter months of sleet, hail and snow.
They are in dire need of "back packs," because what belongings they own they normally carry on their backs. We will be gathering and collecting those items soon. He mentions that it is a great thing when "tents" are donated because a lot of these individuals physically live under the byways, highways and underpasses in cardboard boxes and sometimes just out right in the open elements, no matter if it is raining, cold, hot or just right in temperatures.
We had some personal donated items left over so we will give them to the Lost Sheep Ministry, and other fortunate people. I want to give a very special thanks to Officer Cliff, serving the community by giving of his time to the Lost Sheep Ministry. He referred us to the Lost Sheep Ministry, and he told me that the homeless that come through the ministry doors are fed every Thursday, twice that day and afterwards have a bible study.
I also had the pleasure of meeting some other inspiring people (from nextdoor.com), Mrs. Gin Noon-Spaulding and her daughter Maleah and I found out that her daughter has a charity that is called "Blankets of Hope by Maleah and Friends." They make blankets for the homeless. I was able to connect and meet with them at the Louisville Public Library on York Street last Saturday September 21, 2019 and had a golden opportunity and memorable experience to help make a blanket. It was fun but heart-warming because somebody needy will use that very blanket I helped to make! It really is a life changing experience to be able to touch someone in many ways and making something for them is "up close and personal!"
The good news is that Mrs. Gin agreed to meet with us the ladies of the OMG team to take some of their blankets that they have made and meet up with Mr. Mirrick at the Lost Sheep Ministry. I will keep you posted when we set an exact date. Once again Thank you to all whom donated and to those who sent out prayers and encouragement to us women that have taken this path to use a part of our lives, time, energy and resources to touch others in a way that we let them know that we want to "share, care, and show love" always.
